Featured Artist - Art of the Moment

As you all know I adore border collies and of course sheep.  Anything art related that depicts a border collie or sheep is on my radar.  Recently I began hanging out on Etsy

Etsy is a social commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items as well as art and craft supplies.  What I appreciate about this site is it's ability to give the home based, very small businesses access to the global economy.

In their own words:  About Etsy
Our mission is to empower people to change the way the global economy works.  We see a world in which very-very small businesses have much-much more sway in shaping the economy, local living economies are thriving everywhere, and people value authorship and provenance as much as price and convenience.  We are bringing heart to commerce and making the world more fair, more sustainable, and more fun.
This is not a blog post to endorse Etsy, rather a specific artist I recently found in the Etsy community.

In my effort to help support a small family owned business or artist I am going to begin featuring a artist occasionally on my blog.

Featured Artist - Fanny Dallaire - Art of the Moment on Etsy

Fanny is a self taught Canadian artist from the beautiful town of Ruxton, New Brunswick, Canada where she lives with her husband and family.  Fanny operates a small family-based business L'Art du Moment.  You can find her work at Art of the Moment on Etsy.

I found her by searching for sheep related jewelry, saw a couple of her fused glass pieces and fell in love with the medium and her work.

Here is the initial piece that hooked me.  Sheep Mom & Baby Fused Glass Pendant

All of her pieces are one of a kind. Before I could whip out my debit card to purchase it, someone else snatched it up.

Devastated yet determined I found yet another lovely sheep piece - Little Lamb Fused Glass Pendant.  This one did not escape my grasp.  I snatched it up quickly.

While looking through her other work I saw she did a few dogs here and there.  So I fired off an email to her through Etsy and asked her if she would be able to make any sheep with border collies.  She said she would be happy to accomodate.

Viola, meet my next purchase from her shop.  Sheep and Border Collie Fused Glass Pendant

By this point I realized if I bought anymore of these my husband was going to disconnect the internet.  But this one almost sent me over the edge and grab the credit card.

How could I possibly resist this adorable face?  Fanny captured it perfectly.  Border Collie Fused Glass Pendant

Because I know I am weak and I have the credit card numbers memorized I quickly shared this on Facebook and my friend Gloria spared me a slow death at the hands of my husband and bought it for herself.  (My husband thanks you Gloria).

Fanny has since made a few more border collie and sheep pendants.

Border Collie Running in the Snow - Fused Glass Pendant

Another version of a Border Collie Fused Glass Pendant

More sheep. Sheep Mom & Baby Pendant (lamb is nursing)

This is one of my favorites.  I love how the white glass angles across the top of the piece.  Sheep Mom & Baby Fused Glass Pendant

Here is another style of pendant she offers.  Mini-Sheep Fused Glass Pendant

In addition to pendants, she also offers beautiful sterling silver rings in just about any design you heart desires.   Sheep Sterling Silver Ring

This is a small sampling of her work, related to sheep and border collies.  If you take a little bit of time to browse her shop you will find incredible Mermaids

Mermaid & Octopus

All varieties of animals.  Do you like polar bears?

How about a Scottish Highland Cow?

I am thinking about this for our youngest daughter's Christmas present.  Running Black Horse in the Night

Who could resist this face?  Bulldog Fused Glass Pendant

Dear Lord in Heaven, this reminds me of a cat I grew up with his name was Sam, I'am.  Himalyan Cat Fused Glass Pendant

How about a Collie Pendant?

This Wolf in the Night almost sent me over the edge.  Thank goodness it was already sold.

Cock-a-Doodle-Doo!  Rooster Fused Glass Pendant

For you Siberian Husky lovers out there - Mom & Baby Siberian Husky

For those of you who are already drooling but would really like to have a pendant that is close to your own dog, here is the good news.

Fanny will do custom orders based on photos.  But remember this is fused glass, while it will be close, do not expect photo quality - rather an interpretation of your dog done in this medium.  Fanny will also honor special requests and will work with you on anything you would like - the customer service is top notch and her response time quick.

Please visit Fanny's shop at on Etsy - Art of the Moment

You can contact her via there, or send a email with photo to artofthemoment@ymail.com

Please tell her you found her through BCxFour.

Those are amazing. What's really funny is I took almost the EXACT picture of the border collie running through the snow, right down to the tongue(!!) of my friend's puppy a couple years back. So cool :)

They don't fit my budget right now, but man, I think I'll be considering saving some pennies ;-)

uh oh, a custom Ryker pendant may be in the works! I also have problems with self control.
Check out the needled felted animals next Carolyn. ETSY is amazing, I have had some custom paintings that have been done by ETSY artists. I have been happy with all of them.
